DESCRIPTION:Friends of the Little River Clean-up\nJoin up with the locals of Grayson County to help clean up The Little River–a New River Tributary! \nContact Keith Andrews or Will Sowards for more information on this Clean River Month Clean-up. \nHOW TO PLAN FOR YOUR RIVER CLEAN-UP: \n\nPFDs (Personal Flotation Devices) REQUIRED for your safety\nSturdy gloves for picking up trash and debris\nDress to get wet and dirty–you WILL get wet and dirty!\nWear river-safe shoes\, preferably with a closed toe–no flip-flops\, please!\nBring a kayak or canoe if you have them!\n\nBags will be provided to collect river trash at the Boat Launch site. All trash and debris will be weighed and then collected by our partners at Virginia DWR and Grayson County Public Works. \nIn the event of severe weather or poor river conditions\, the clean-up will be cancelled. Please refer to the clean-up organizers to know if a clean-up is cancelled. Updates will be posted on the Grayson County Tourism Facebook page the night before the clean-up.  \nClean River Month in Grayson County is sponsored by: Grayson County Tourism & Economic Development; New River Wildlife & Conservation Club; New River Conservancy; Virginia Department of Wildlife Resources; Grayson Landcare; Preserve Grayson; The Goodwill Grange Hall; Grayson County Public Works.

SUMMARY:Museum of Ashe County\, NC Exhibit Ribbon Cutting
DESCRIPTION:On Saturday\, Aug. 9\, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.\, the Museum of Ashe County History invites the public to attend the official ribbon cutting for its newest exhibit\, titled “A Home Away from Home: Recreation and Tourism in Ashe County.” \n\n\nThe new exhibit helps tell the story of Ashe County’s early tourism industry\, ranging from its historic resorts such as Healing Springs and Shatley Springs to the creation of Mount Jefferson State Park and the conservation of the New River. Some of the artifacts presented in this exhibit include historic postcards and brochures\, memorabilia from the Civilian Conservation Corps\, and the very pen used by President Gerald Ford to sign legislation designating a section of the New River as part of the National Wild and Scenic Rivers System. \nThe New River Conservancy will have an information table set up.
