SUMMARY:Stroubles Creek Clean Up
DESCRIPTION:Please register for our Stroubles Creek Cleanup on Friday\, Nov 6th\, at 3 PM \n.\nWhen: 3:00 PM to ~5:30 PM\n\n.\nWhere: Meet us at 120 Inventive Lane\, Blacksburg (Biological Systems Engineering Building). If you have a VT Parking Permit\, you may park on site. If you do not have a VT Parking Permit\, we advise you to carpool with someone who does or to park at VT Stream Lab\, about a 5 minute walk from the meeting place. Arrive a few minutes early and we can direct you there.\n.\nCleanup: Join the New River Conservancy to help clean Stroubles Creek\, a tributary of the New River. Stroubles Creek headwaters begin from Blacksburg’s 16 springs; the stream is subject to a significant amount of urban runoff and trash. It is then routed under Virginia Tech’s Drillfield. The stream resurfaces below the Drillfield where it feeds the Duck Pond and continues through a large area of active ecological restoration.\n.\nTools/equipment: The New River Conservancy will supply tools and equipment (grabbers\, gloves\, trash bags) for the event. Bathrooms available at 120 Inventive Lane.\n.\nYou provide: Dress to get dirty! Wear closed-toe shoes and long pants as there may be rusty metal\, broken glass\, etc. Long sleeves are recommended. Bring plenty of water and snacks (light snacks and water will be provided). Bring waders\, waterproof boots\, or water shoes if you wish to wade in the stream for trash.\n.\nUpon completion of this form\, you will be contacted by New River Conservancy Clean Up Coordinator\, Sydney Haney\, with further information.\n.\nQuestions? Please contact\nsydney@newriverconservancy.org\n\n.\nREGISTER HERE

SUMMARY:Riverfront Trash & Invasive Species Clean Up
DESCRIPTION:Please register for the New River Conservancy‘s Smith Farm Trail and Fairlawn Riverfront Cleanup on Saturday\, November 7th\, hosted in collaboration with Fairlawn Riverfront. \n\n.\nWhen: Exact Time TBD\n\n.\nWhere: Meet at the Fairlawn Riverfront 5980 Dudley Ferry Road\, Radford\, VA 24141\n.\nParking at Fairlawn Riverfront is limited and carpooling is encouraged.\n.\nCleanup: Join the New River Conservancy to help clean up riverside trash and remove invasive plant species along Smith Farm Trail in Fairlawn\, VA.  We will be cleaning trash and removing invasives along the riverbank from that address southwest to Sheffey Park (located about 1.3 miles upriver\, accessible by Hazel Hollow Rd or on foot by Smith Farm Trail).   At higher flood stages\, this zone becomes inundated by the New River\, which may spread or deposit trash and transport invasive species seeds. Our work is crucial to a healthy river ecosystem!\n.\nTools/equipment: The New River Conservancy will supply the following: grabbers\, gloves\, trash bags\, light snacks\, water.\n.\nCome prepared with: Closed-toe shoes\, long pants\, a personal water bottle\, and whatever snacks you may want. Long sleeves are recommended. The area is largely shaded but consider appropriate sun protection.\n.\nOptional: anything that may aid in safe clean up of trash or mechanical removal of invasive species (i.e. weeding tools\, extra thick gloves for thorny species)\n.\nIf your availability changes or you have to cancel\, please reach out and let us know as soon as you are able.\n.\nUpon completion of this form\, you will be contacted by New River Conservancy Clean Up Coordinator\, Sydney Haney\, with further information.\n.\nQuestions? Please contact\nsydney@newriverconservancy.org\n\n.\nREGISTER HERE
