SUMMARY:South Fork of the New River Clean Up
DESCRIPTION:Join us for the first 2024 New River Clean Up!  (Please be advised!  This event has been postponed to April 6)\n\nWe have partnered with Stone Mountain Trout Unlimited to clean the South Fork of the New River in Watauga County.\nParticipants should wear appropriate clothing and be prepared to get wet. To register and for more info please email info@newriverconservancy.org\n\n\nRiver CleanUps are crucial to protecting the waters\, woodlands\, and wildlife of the New River Watershed. Pollution in the New can harm physical habitat\, transport chemical pollutants\, threaten aquatic life\, and interfere with human uses of the river. However each year we get help from our River Cleanup Volunteers\, to remove trash from the river.\n\n\nWith your help we have cleaned over 1\,500 miles of river and removed over 14\,000 tires.\n\n\nWith your help we have cleaned out and disposed of 500\,000 pounds of trash. That’s the equivalent of 250 ’79 Volkswagen Beetles! OR. 40 African elephants! In trash.
