Conservation Day at Grandview: Fun, Learning, and Adventure for the Whole Family

The New River Gorge National Park & Preserve, in partnership with the New River Conservancy, West Virginia Rivers Coalition, and the Dr. Seuss Enterprises, invites families and visitors of all ages to Conservation Day at the Grandview Amphitheater in the New River Gorge National Park & Preserve on September 20, from 4 PM to 8 PM. A free showing of The Lorax movie immediately follows.

This free, family-friendly event offers a full afternoon of hands-on activities, educational programs, and entertainment designed to inspire care for West Virginia’s rivers, forests, and public lands. Guests can:

• Visit tables hosted by local and regional partnering organizations with fun, interactive children’s activities
• Attend engaging talks about protecting our natural resources.
• Receive a free copy of the New River Activity Guide.
• Enjoy a screening of the beloved film The Lorax.

“Unless someone like you cares a whole lot, nothing is going to get better,” said Maggie Stange, Communications Manager for WV Rivers Coalition. “That’s why we’re excited to invite families to Conservation Day to explore, learn, and take action for our rivers and streams.”

Visitors can meet representatives from a variety of conservation groups, community organizations, and educational programs, participate in hands-on experiences, and take home resources and ideas for enjoying and protecting West Virginia’s incredible outdoors.

Guests can explore a variety of interactive tables and activities for kids, hosted by local and regional partners including the Active WV, Greenbrier River Watershed, National Parks Conservation Association, New River Alliance of Climbers, New River Gorge National Park, Piney Creek Watershed Association, Plateau Action Network, Snakes of West Virginia with Roy Moose,  WV American Water, WV Department of Environmental Protection, and WV Explorer.

Each organization will offer hands-on experiences, games, and learning opportunities designed to connect children and families with West Virginia’s rivers, forests, and public lands.

New River Conservancy Marketing and Communications Director, Lisa Stansell – Galitz, added: “Working with the Dr. Seuss Foundation on this project and having The Lorax attend is a dream come true. Conservation Day is a chance to give back to our communities in the New River watershed and help them learn how to protect the incredible resource of the river.”
