Meet Jennifer Baker
Land Protection Committee
Jennifer, the daughter of a Department of Interior, United States Fish and Wildlife Service Biologist developed a love for the great outdoors at an early age. Having West Virginia roots, traveling and living in some of the most beautiful National forests in America with her family, she became very aware of environmental and conservation issues, as well as environmental social justice.
She has dedicated most of her adult life in the Greenbrier Valley community through various volunteering opportunities, such as Girl Scouts, Toys for Tots, and the Greenbrier County Homeland Security and Emergency Management during the 2016 catastrophic flooding event. Serving and holding offices on the Greenbrier County Board of Zoning Appeals, and Planning Commission, while championing clean water advocacy and activism. In 1995, after five years of perseverance, Jennifer was instrumental in the extension of a Lewisburg city water line at no charge to 300 under-served people, due to a high pressure
leachate line being installed by the Greenbrier County Landfill, threatening healthy well water supplies.
Until recently, Jennifer has been the Coordinator for the Greenbrier River Watershed Association. Coordinating the fourteen member Board of Directors. Jennifer was responsible for communication with the public and press, the day to day management of the office, coordination of board meetings, social media and weekly newsletter. Increasing membership, planning and organizing events, working with local community leaders, bringing projects to fruition by working with partnering agencies, such as the WVDEP, US Forest Service, USFWS, Greenbrier Valley Conservation Agency, and local schools, are just a few of her many accomplishments.
Jennifer believes that protecting clean water supplies for all West Virginians through education and good land use planning, is paramount for good health and positive economic growth of our state.
