Why does a land trust matter?

Having an accredited land trust in your community means you have a strong land conservation partner. You may be a landowner considering a conservation easement who wants to protect your land’s legacy. Or a community investor who prioritizes lasting impact. Or just someone who wants conservation to make a real difference for people and nature. Watch and learn what it means to be an accredited land trust.

Why does accreditation matter?

The accreditation seal is a mark of distinction, and being accredited helps your land trust to stand out, to say to landowners, funders and other supporters: “Invest in us. We have proven we are a strong, effective organization you can trust to conserve your land forever.”

PUBLIC NOTICE:

The land trust accreditation program recognizes land conservation organizations that meet national quality standards for protecting important natural places and working lands forever. New River Conservancy (NRC) is pleased to announce it is applying for renewal of accreditation. A public comment period is now open. Comments received before March 19, 2027 will be most useful.

The Land Trust Accreditation Commission, an independent program of the Land Trust Alliance (LTA), conducts an extensive review of each applicant’s policies and programs. NRC is applying to renew their accreditation. As a member of the LTA, NRC can assure their landowners and other stakeholders that they vigorously and thoroughly reviewed all of their endeavors and are following best management practices to protect natural places and working lands.

The Commission invites public input and accepts signed, written comments on pending applications. Comments must relate to how New River Conservancy complies with national quality standards. These standards address the ethical and technical operation of a land trust. Full list of standards HERE
