More than 25,000 pounds removed in 2022

Kicking off the summer of New River CleanUps throughout the New River Watershed in North Carolina, Virginia, and West Virginia.

The New River Conservancy volunteers have already seen a high amount of trash and tires removed from the New River.

In 2022 alone we  pulled 20,500 pounds of trash from West Virginia cleanups , 1238 pounds from North Carolina cleanups, and 2612 pounds from Virginia cleanups for a total of 24,350 pounds across the watershed from 16 cleanups.

River CleanUps are crucial to protecting the waters, woodlands, and wildlife of the New River Watershed. Pollution in the New can harm physical habitat, transport chemical pollutants, threaten aquatic life, and interfere with human uses of the river. However each year we get help from our River Cleanup Volunteers, to remove trash from the river.

With your help we have cleaned over 1,500 miles of river and removed over 14,000 tires.

With your help we have cleaned out and disposed of 500,000 pounds of trash.  That’s the equivalent of 250 ’79 Volkswagen Beetles! OR.  40 African elephants! In trash.  From our beautiful New River.
