We had a great cleanup on Saturday, June 11, 2023!
18 volunteers showed up to help the New, ranging from very young to very well seasoned. We all hit the Glade Creek to Grandview sandbar section hard and pulled out tires, jugs, construction materials and even some fun finds like baby doll heads along the way. Special thanks to Adventures on the Gorge for the delicious lunch, and much gratitude to all who had a lot of fun doing lots of good.
River CleanUps are crucial to protecting the waters, woodlands, and wildlife of the New River Watershed. Pollution in the New can harm physical habitat, transport chemical pollutants, threaten aquatic life, and interfere with human uses of the river. However each year we get help from our River Cleanup Volunteers, to remove trash from the river.
With your help we have cleaned over 1,500 miles of river and removed over 14,000 tires.
With your help we have cleaned out and disposed of 500,000 pounds of trash. That’s the equivalent of 250 ’79 Volkswagen Beetles! OR. 40 African elephants! In trash. From our beautiful New River.
