RiverGirl Fishing Company

Even before Hurricane Helene hit, the indefatigable Kelly McCoy of RiverGirl Fishing Company in Todd, North Carolina got to work.  Rescuing folks, organizing cleanups throughout Todd and beyond, pulling debris out of the New River and its banks, and in general being a beacon of hope to her community.  It’s nothing less than what we would expect from this incredible human, even though Helene wrecked her company taking supplies, kayaks, tubes and canoes downriver.
.
Here is an excerpt from an October 4th post by Renatta, Kelly’s partner and wife:
Moving quickly to salvage and save the source of the livelihood of this community, cleaning the very thing that wreaked havoc only hours before, we turned our focus on the river and her creeks. Each day, one section at a time, we picked up the trash and debris. With each step, we embraced our motto of when you do your best, make sure someone else is blessed. This was not a clean up for Rivergirl, it was a restoration of our community, of our family, of our spirits. It hit home when every single individual stepped in to help each other without hesitation. Dropping whatever we were focused on without question and an “of course let’s do this” attitude to help when and where we could. Many hands make light work and many hearts make us strong.
