Meet Cathy Hanks
New River Valley Program Coordinator
Cathy, a native Virginian, has been an outdoor enthusiast since she could walk and would accompany her mother to gather wild greens for salads. As an avid hiker, outdoor photographer, and Certified Master Naturalist, Cathy’s passion for the outdoors is evident in how she spends her free time as well as the direction her career has taken, and she takes pride in being able to effectively educate and inspire those around her to take action to protect the places they love. In addition to serving as the New River Valley Program Coordinator for New River Conservancy, Cathy is also the President of Friends of Peak Creek, a community based environmental organization dedicated to the preservation and protection of the Peak Creek watershed. Cathy assists the NRC with our restoration program, River Builder, and water quality monitoring program, New River Water Watchers, in the New River Valley region.
