Meet Katie Krogmeier

Restoration Director

Katie grew up on the coast of North Carolina, spending much of her childhood swimming in the ocean or playing in the intracoastal. She always had an interest in biology and loved learning about the natural world around her. This pursuit of knowledge and exploration brought her to the mountains where she attended Appalachian State University. Soon after her arrival in the southern Appalachian region, she quickly became an avid hiker and local naturalist. Whether she was conducting field work on mountain peaks, in rivers and streams, or apprenticing a local herbalist, she always dove into any opportunity to be outside learning about the wildlife. She quickly decided that she wanted to use her degree to help protect and conserve the environment. With her studies and ecological experience, she wanted to be like the Lorax and speak for the trees. Now, as our Restoration Director, she can do this for the River, using her knowledge and passion to artfully reconstruct the parts of the New that had before been lost.
